Sinus Headache Symptoms

Filed under: headache — euronegative @ 4:27 pm

Most of the common sinus headache symptoms will be evident long before the actual headache has become painful. Sinus headaches occur when pressure builds up within the sinus canals, which run between your ears, nose and throat. Sinus symptoms generally begin with a stuffy nose, which can progress into more serious congestion in the upper nasal cavities.

The majority of sinus headache sufferers will also have postnasal drip. Which is a symptom that is as unpleasant as it sounds - the blocked sinuses will release that build up of mucus; which then runs down the back of the throat. Untreated, in time, these symptoms will often lead to that excruciating and throbbing pain, known as a sinus headache.

Sinus headache symptoms should never be ignored. These headaches may indicate that you have a sinus infection which will need to be treated by a physician. Sinus headaches will usually include severe pain around the eyes. That pain will not always remain localized, often spreading down the face. On occasion, some sinus headache sufferers will even experience that same obtrusive pain in their teeth. Sinus headaches are similar in some ways to migraine headache symptoms, in that the sufferer will often experience actual physical tenderness in the areas most affected.

Congestion is usually the first sinus headache symptom to occur, because a sinus headache is a direct result of the pressure placed upon the sinuses when they are overly congested. Therefore, relieving the congestion will often relieve the pain. Sinus headache symptoms are not located in the top or back of the head - as is common for migraines. Maybe sinus headaches ought to be called “face-aches”, because that is actually where most of the pain is felt. The sinus cavities run along the cheekbones and forehead, as well as behind the eyes and down the nose. That is why pain might be experienced in any or all of these facial areas. One of the most debilitating sinus headache symptoms for most is experienced behind the eyes - this pain sometimes accompanied by swelling of the eyes.

Sinus headaches symptoms can render a person unable to function - the pressure that builds around the eyes, nose, and cheeks can be extremely painful, and just too much for most people. Even so… The best way to treat a sinus headache is not actually to take an aspirin or lie down - although this may take away the pain for the time, it does not solve the sinus problem.

In this case particularly, prevention is better than cure. So the best thing to do is cut off the headaches at their source. Sometimes, this can be achieved by the use of a good decongestant or steam treatment. However, regular sinus headache symptoms signal that the sinuses are regularly under attack … and the best way to get relief is to get rid of the attacker!

Your toddler is probably used to being the center of your world. They are your baby and are used to having a lot of one-on-one time with you. Their world is forever changed when they become a big brother or big sister. You can help your toddler to foster a loving and close relationship with their new younger sibling.

Here are tips to help your toddler bond with your newborn.

1. Prepare them.

No, a toddler may not understand everything that you tell them, but use the pregnancy as a time to prepare them to be an older sibling. Talk to them about the baby. Let them talk to the baby before it's born, and explain that the baby can already here them. You might want to get them a baby doll, or bring them along to midwife appointments so that they can hear the baby's heart beat. Make sure that the baby is not a complete surprise.

2. Make the birth a pleasant experience for your toddler.

You probably put a lot of thought into creating a birth plan. Make sure, however, to include your toddler in your plans. Arrange for them to be happy during the birth by planning for them to go to visit granny or spend the day with a friend. Or you can make plans for someone to stay with them at home. After you have packed a hospital bag for yourself and your new baby, pack a birth bag for your toddler as well with special snacks and treats.

3. Make your toddler the first person that you talk to after the birth.

Yes, you will have a really long list of people to call to announce the birth. The very first call, though, should be to your other kid(s). Telling them first makes them feel special and included.

4. Let your toddler see you and the newborn as soon as possible after the birth.

Let your toddler come see that you are ok, and meet their new baby brother or sister. Don't be concerned if they aren't immediately captivated by them. It will take some time to adjust. Often toddlers become more interested in the baby on the second or third day. Don't force them, but when they are interested, show them how to gently hold the baby's hand or stroke their head. Help them to hold the new baby. Skin to skin contact is especially good for bonding, so let your toddler take their shirt off while they give the new baby a cuddle.

5. Get gifts.

Lots of people will be giving your presents for the new baby. Help your toddler to still feel loved by picking a present and wrapping it up for them. When they meet their new sibling for the first time, give them the gift as a present from the baby.

6. Choose your words carefully.

Help your toddler to feel close to the baby by using the right vocabulary. For example, if you refer to the baby as “your baby”, then that's how the toddler will begin to think of them. Don't be surprised if your toddler quickly becomes possessive of “their baby”!

7. Establish a routine with time for your children to spend together.

A particularly great activity can be letting your toddler and baby bathe together. Your newborn will love watching their older sibling, and most toddlers will love helping to wash the baby. You can give them a washcloth and ask them to wash the baby's toes, tummy, etc. Add bubbles and bath toys for extra fun.

8. Let Your Toddler Help.

Explain things to your toddler, and ask them to help. For example, if the baby is crying, explain that they are sad and ask your toddler to sing a song or give them a toy to cheer them up. Toddlers can also pick things up for you. Find ways to let them help, and make sure to praise them for being good helpers.

Facial Peel – Peel Back The Layers Of Time

Filed under: skin care — euronegative @ 7:02 pm

A facial peel will often be referred to as a chemical peel. Depending on its strength, a facial peel can improve the appearance of wrinkles on sun damaged or aging skin, as well as lessen noticeable age spots, freckles, scarring and other blemishes.

A light cosmetic facial peel treatment can be purchased over the counter for home use. It usually contains Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA) – a combination of glycolic, lactic, salicylic, or fruit acids - that simply remove the surface layer of damaged and dead skin cells (which can make skin look grey) leaving the skin fresher, smoother and more toned in appearance. Some more intense applications will incorporate a derma-abrasion type tool that works the solution into the skin - sloughing away skin cells in the process. Some people will experience reactions with a derma-abrasion type facial peel - so a patch test is necessary. Derma-abrasion is an aggressive surgical procedure carried out by certified physicians to improve the appearance of skin.

A medium facial peel applied by a physician or dermatologist – most often Tri-Chloroacetic Acid (TCA) – is effective for the treatment of fine wrinkles, light scarring, or pigmentation problems. Therefore a Tri-Chloroacetic Acid is often preferable for people with darker skins who require more than light peeling, as an intense peel can create uneven patches in skin tone. A TCA facial peel also needs far less recovery time.

An intense chemical facial peel is carried out by a physician. The chemicals used are much more powerful and remove far more layers of skin. A deep facial peel such as this is normally used to reduce scarring and other such skin blemishes – as well as deep wrinkles.

Light facial peels rarely cause any significant side effects. And usually the medium and intense facial peels will only bring some 'expected' discomfort which soon passes, although more intense facial peels will require more recovery time. Even so, while not commonplace, none are entirely without risk: Infection and swelling, scarring and uneven skin tone being the main problems that can occur. Being honest and thorough with the dermatologist or physician with regards to any medical conditions – including cold sores – can reduce the possibility of problems occurring.

A facial peel can be highly beneficial for the skin and deliver some noticeable and gratifying results – when guidelines are adhered to and professionals are used.

Sleep Deprivation Symptoms - Are You Just Tired Or Sleep Deprived?

Filed under: insomnia — euronegative @ 7:43 pm

When it comes to sleep deprivation symptoms, most people have a difficult time dealing with them. Not just with regards to having to endure the physical and sometimes psychological symptoms, but also with regards to pin pointing the true root of the sleeping problem. Sleep deprivation symptoms can be mild to severe. It can take time before an individual realizes that a real problem exists and unchecked, long term sleep deprivation can have an extremely adverse effect upon health. Hence it is important to be aware of what is happening to your body and why.

One of the first sleep deprivation symptoms any individual might notice is also the most obvious. It is feeling tired, drowsiness, a general lack of energy, and irritability. Of course, many people feel tired and irritable. What needs to be understood is this particular symptom may not necessarily indicate you have a sleeping disorder. Tiredness can be caused by many things other than poor sleep patterns.

Falling asleep in the daytime can indicate a medical condition. It is important to access whether you are feeling tired because you are not sleeping properly or if you are sleeping well, yet still feeling tired. If it is the former, your problem may be related to how regularly, how often, or how long you sleep. If you think your symptoms might be due to a medical condition or you are in any doubt as to the cause of your sleeping problem, consult your doctor.

With a sleep deprivation problem, we are primarily talking about a problem with sleep patterns — that is, irregular sleeping times. Ask yourself this question, “When did my quality of sleep become poor?” Stress is the number one answer to that. When stress appears, good sleep patterns seem to immediately disappear. This is true for a majority of people. If you can pinpoint irregularities in your sleep patterns to a time when you became under more stress than usual, this could be the cause of the problem, in which case the best remedy, ideally, would be to remove the root problem of your stress. But as we all know this is not always possible, nor practical.

Tiredness and drowsiness can be fatal. Not paying attention at the wheel of the car or in the workplace could put your life, and the lives of others at major risk. Which brings us to another indication of over-tiredness: and that is clumsiness or lack of balance. Of course, some people are just accident prone. However, for others, it can indicate a more serious problem. Always remember your overall health is dependent upon a good night's sleep. If you believe you may be experiencing sleep deprivation symptoms, then you should talk to a doctor. Don't let something controllable and treatable put your life in jeopardy.

Kodak Zi8 Vs Flip Mino - Pocket Video Camera Smackdown

Filed under: Cameras — euronegative @ 9:52 pm

The world of digital camcorders is speeding along at the same pace as the computer industry, gathering more and more amazing features in ever smaller packages. Take for instance the new pocket video cameras that have been developed recently. At this moment, it is primarily a competition between just two products: the new Kodak Zi8 and the Flip Mino camcorders.

Both products have been carefully designed to capture the growing market of easy to use and extremely portable camcorders with built in capabilities that make sharing the videos on the computer and loading them up to the popular social networking sites extremely easy. Let's do a quick digital video camera review of these two products.

Flip and Kodak are both justifiably proud of their respective product lines, and make it easy to find lots of information online. Of course, one of the most important features to everyone is the price, and you will find that they at exactly the same price point, $179.99. So far a tie.

One important difference between these two is that the Kodak Zi8, like most digital video cameras, has an extremely small amount of internal memory (only 128 MB). The Flip has a much larger capacity of 2 GB, 16 times as much. Score 1 for the Flip.

However, and this is huge, both literally and figuratively, the Kodak relies on the use of SD/SDHC memory cards to expand it's storage capabilities. The Flip Mino leaves you no room for expansion. The Kodak digital video camera can handle up to a 32 GB card for those who want to go all out. What does that mean? Up to 10 HOURS of video recording! Score a big plus for Kodak.

One of the things that is similar between the two is they both share a very handy built in USB swing-out arm, so you don't need camera specific USB cables. You can just swing out the arm and plug it directly into your computer and start sharing. Down with cable clutter! A tie.

Both come with video and picture editing software, but only the Zi8 has HD capable video recording, and a HDMI output on the camera itself to hook it up directly to your HDTV for instant viewing. A Kodak win.

But from here on, it really isn't much of a competition. The Flip Mino, and even it's big brother the MinoHD (which costs significantly more) can't hold a candle to the value and the quality of the Kodak Zi8. For the same price, you get a vastly larger viewscreen, built in image stablization, full blown 1080 pixel HD video, and the security that comes with the Kodak brand.

Final result: the race between these two models is not remotely close today — the Zi8 pocket digital video camera is superior. Of course, don't expect Flip to sit idle.

Long Term Health Care

Filed under: long term care — euronegative @ 4:00 pm

At some point most people will need long term health care. While that might be for medical treatment and convalescence of an illness or injury, long term health care does not solely involve physical health issues, injury and medical treatment. It can simply involve long term personal health care.

There are many options and various decisions to be made with regards to choosing the correct long term health care facility; should the time come when either you or a loved one is in need of it. Those choices can be a little overwhelming at first, especially when you may already be feeling under pressure. So begin by 'ticking the boxes' of the most fundamental points first, and the process will become easier.

Primarily it is necessary to determine what level of long term health care is needed. Asking your medical practitioner should clear any confusion with regards to the long term care required, effectively allowing the professionals to decide upon what level of care is needed. It may be that a long term care facility is not essential, and the patient is able to have their personal and health care needs provided in their own home – everyday chores such as bathing, housekeeping, meals and the administration of basic medical care.

It might be that 'assisted living' might be the better long term health care option. For example, if the patient lives in a rural area or their current home is not suitable or sufficiently adaptable to meet their current needs – even with home care arrangements in place. Assisted long term health care provides staff members to help with all their basic health care requirements, meals and personal care, as well as transportation, field trips and other such social activities. Some assisted long term health care facilities will also make other services available, like beauticians and hairdressers, for example.

For people who are relatively healthy, yet in need of long term care, some communities can provide rental apartments. Many senior housing facilities can also provide help with everyday chores such as meals and housekeeping, as well as offer regular social activities. It may be that they can also offer assisted long term health care. It is not unusual for a 'continuing care' community to be able to provide several levels of long term health care.

Long term health care requirements depend upon many different conditions. A nursing home providing round the clock nursing care might be essential for convalescence or end of life care. While the levels of long term health care available vary, the opinion of the doctor is paramount, although the preference of the patient should be considered.

The best bespoke kitchen design is a mix of a stunning look and the practicalities of day to day usage with the aim of matching the needs and living style of the kitchen owners.

Whether you are reworking your current kitchen or completely changing it with a bespoke kitchen design, there are a number of points to consider.

The first area to consider is the overall style and ambiance you wish to create in your kitchen. Once this has been decided, it will help you in your choices regarding the key features, such as the nature of the cabinets, worktops, appliances and tiles etc. Recent trends have followed modern, contemporary kitchen design with a sleek streamlined look, or you may wish to generate perhaps a more country, rustic traditional feel to the room.

The second key to a great kitchen design is to fully understand and appreciate the needs of the users of the kitchen.

You should examine how the room is to be used “Do you require a separate dining area? How much entertaining is done? Will there be sufficient areas for food preparation? And should there be a separate family area?” Many homes now adopt an open plan arrangement, where the kitchen links seamlessly to the rest of the home, or you may wish to keep the kitchen as a separate living space.

The design must take into account the floor area available, techniques can be employed even for small spaces to maximise a spacious feeling. Cabinets are often placed just down one wall. The size of the appliances should not be out of proportion with the size of the room.

If you are looking for a sociable kitchen, the best idea is to create an L shape with the units as well as having two large island units to provide zones for food preparation and cooking and another for seating. This layout contributes in several ways to creating a sociable kitchen.

1. a safe area for eating/entertaining etc away from the food preparation and cooking areas

2. The two islands so the need to walk around long units to get around the kitchen.

3. Combined kitchen and living areas.

Don’t feel constrained by “off the shelf” units. Instead investigate the bespoke kitchen design services that companies offer. This will allow you to get a kitchen design that matches you specification.

Sports Memorabilia For Fun Or Profit

Filed under: Sports — euronegative @ 5:40 pm

Sports memorabilia is a passion for many, big business for others, and a bit of both for some. While the hunt for memorabilia items can be driven by obsession, with regards to investment it can be extremely lucrative. For instance a ball Mark McGwire hit for a home run in 1998 was auctioned at Sotheby's for more than $1 million.

When people make reference to “sports memorabilia” they are generally referring to objects and souvenirs associated with a famous athlete or sports event. In particular, those considered rare and therefore “collectors' items”.

Of all the sports memorabilia collected today, autographs have always been among the most sought after – a fascination that began way back at the beginning of the twentieth century, in the days of Babe Ruth and baseball. Many would say this was actually when the whole concept of sports memorabilia began. And fans did not stop at autographs from their favorite baseball players, they also began taking home the balls from the games. An authenticated ball signed by Babe Ruth could be worth more than $10,000; depending upon factors such as its condition, whether it is signed, and if the ball is from his official American League days, or not.

Over the years the fascination for memorabilia among baseball fans began to be reflected within other sports – indeed mania truly did begin to appear! With regards to any kind of memorabilia, not just sports, the true value of any item will only ever equal the value it has to the person who seeks it out. Therefore the pricing of sports memorabilia does tend to be a fluctuating estimate of averages and 'factors' – sometimes the amounts offered up are way above anyone's expectations. The soccer shirt Pelé wore in 1970 when Brazil won the World Cup sold for $224,000. The highest price paid ever on record for a worn soccer jersey!

For many collectors their memorabilia have more sentimental value than monetary value, maybe recalling a big 'sporting moment' in their life. An autograph can add value to an item as well as decrease it. While a sentimental sports memorabilia collector might highly value an autographed item signed “To Bill my Best Baseball Buddy”, out on the open market it is quite a different story.

There are specialist companies that have developed systems by which they can authenticate autographs and 'game used' items. If an item is thought to be of value, this is a good route to take, as many collectors will not purchase autographed sports memorabilia or 'game used' items without a certificate of authenticity. Without authenticity the value lies wholly with the sentimental collector.
